Homework with Mom

Greetings to all.

At last, we got a snow storm that left enough snow to test the repairs to our snow thrower. Xavier helped disassemble the thrower and put it back together.

We tested it as much as one could without snow by firing it up and verifying the augers turned (which was the problem: the worm gear had worn out).

So, yesterday morning after breakfast, Xavier and I suited up and headed out. Xavier armed himself with his snow shovel and I fired up the thrower. Together, we did our driveway and sidewalks, two neighbors' driveways and walks and the walk from the second neighbor's driveway around to ours.

Afterward, Xavier needed to catch up on his school work. In the afternoon, he found Rebecca keeping warm in bed as she worked remotely.

With a lap tray, he crawled into bed with mom and pretended to work at home as well. (It took some coaching to get him to actually finish his school work; he was a little under-motivated).

Today, the sun shone down through partly clearing skies. To Xavier, that meant melting snow and snowmen! The melting snow meant water to play in and slush to make.

Easter 2020: Easter For Shutins

Greetings to you all! Jesus is Risen! Alleluia!

Xavier's day began about 0630.

He came running out of his room and toward my office. "Daddy! Daddy! The Easter Bunny left a basket in my room!"

He completely missed seeing me sitting on the couch in the other room as he passed by me on his way to my office.

Rebecca still slept soundly as Xavier spotted hidden chocolates and jellybeans everywhere in the rooms he walked through. I was completely impressed how fast he found even some of the more ingeniously hidden prizes.

"You need to wait for your mother to get up," I told Xavier, who was vibrating as though he had already eaten half the candies he had already discovered.

0645, Rebecca was up, much against her desire. She wanted another hour or two of sleep!

That was hard to do with a near seven-year-old bouncing on you.

Xavier spent the next thirty minutes combing the rooms he knew the Easter Bunny favors.

The Bunny hid twelve Resurrection Eggs: plastic eggs with an item pertaining to the Easter Story.

One egg had some nails, one had a piece of cloth, another had a rooster and so on.

Xavier found eleven of these eggs. While Rebecca prepared breakfast, I sat with Xavier and asked him to explain the meaning of each of the items in the eggs. When he could not explain the item, we read the story.

The one egg we did not have was the "White Egg." When we did find it, it was empty!

Xavier knew exactly what that meant!

Christ is Risen!

How Xavier and Rebecca Shelter in Place

Greetings to everyone.

One of the side effects of the so-called shelter in place is the ability to catch up on some yard work.

Last Saturday, being a sunny, warm day, we started moving the garden on the ground to a garden in raised beds/planter boxes.

We got one built and put in place. The garden dirt will be ordered later this week.

In the mean time, Xavier has been milling "wheat" with his cement mixer truck. His "wheat" is the dried grass from his garden patch.

Today, Rebecca helped churn some of the seeds. She used Xavier's last batch of "seeds" and some white flour to make a small loaf of bread. It made Xavier happy.
